How to buy a Puppy from us

The Birth
Tom personally attends the birth of each and every one of our puppies. When one of the mamas are getting close, he goes for days with hardly any sleep, for fear as soon as he does one will go into labor. He stays close by, without interfering unless necessary, to be sure each pup is cleaned and breathing, and nurses shortly after.

2-3 Days Old
We remove the dewclaws from the puppies. We do this to keep the puppies from troubles later on in life. The dewclaws can catch on things, particularly carpet or wire cages/fencing, and rip, causing a great deal of pain that is just not necessary. They can also curl around into the skin, becoming very irritating and painful. We cannot guarentee that dewclaws are done, however. In a large litter, one may be missed.

Solid Food
We start offering solid food to the puppies at 4 weeks of age, it usually starts with a nibble here and there and by 6-7 weeks are getting all of their nutrition from solid food and completely weaned from the dam. We feed puppies Purina Puppy Chow only.

Worming
Panacur wormer is administered at 4 weeks, and repeated 10 days later and then again at 8 weeks of age.

Vaccinations
We vaccinate at 5, 9, and 13 weeks with a 5 way vaccination that covers:
Bordetella bronchiseptica, canine parainfluenza virus, parvo, distemper and canine adenovirus type 2.

Health Exams
If your puppy is going to be shipped or going out of the state of Iowa, it will have a mandatory health exam. These are performed through our veterinarian, Clearview Animal Hospital, located in Bloomfield, IA. The soonest the exam can be done is 8 weeks and 1 day. The exam is good for 10 days with the airline, so we usually do the exam a day or two before the flight is scheduled in case weather causes a flight postponement.
